Romance is one of those words that feels like it should only be ascribed to the affection between a man and woman. It conjures up images of quiet pond-side picnics, beautiful bouquets of flowers and strolling violins.

There is so much more to romance – it’s richer and deeper and more beautiful than we could ever imagine. Romance is not a man-made response to falling in love. Romance is what God does as He draws us closer to Him and reveals the depth of His love and passion for us.

Being a single mom, romance is far from the top of my priority list, but I cannot deny that I long for it. And how precious is my Savior that He longs to romance me even more than I long to receive it. I have found romance in the most unexpected places.

I have found romance in a glorious sunset that stops me in my tracks.

… in an inspiring verse that seems to be a love letter written just for me.
… in the view from an airplane.
… in the kind and encouraging words of a friend.
… in a quiet moment of reflection at the end of the day.

I’m sure there are many more ways I could list, because my God has infinite ideas on how to romance me.

Let me show you how He has blessed me today. I was looking up verses about love. Wow! There are a lot of them! Each of them reminded me of some aspect of God that blessed me, but today Jeremiah 31:3-4 particularly tugged at my heart. The verses are:

[verse reference=”Jeremiah 31:3-4“]…the Lord appeared to him from far away. “I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. Again I will build you, and you shall be built…[/verse]

I thought about how God loves me so much … everlasting … lasting forever, eternally, constant. What a blessed thing. And because of that beautiful love, God will always be faithful to me … always. Always loving and always faithful … balm to my busted heart. And He does not stop there! He will build me up … I will be built up! I’m a bit battered right now, but I will be built back up into the woman God made me to be!

God romanced me in the most wonderful way through those verses … He took my abandoned heart and soothed it with His forever love. He took my betrayed heart and wrapped it with His faithfulness. He took my fear of the future and promised to build me up … and I believe the rebuilt me will be even better than before.

How kind and loving is my sweet Savior! I’m in awe of His tender and compassionate love for me! I pray today you will feel the sweetness and the healing of His love poured over you! God longs to romance you with His love!

  1. Thanks for the sweet and encouraging words, Sue. Such a great perspective. I think I often overlook God’s romancing.
