About Tricia

Greetings! I’m Tricia Goyer also known as there’s-no-such-thing-as-a-dull-moment girl. I’ve been married to John for twenty years and have four children ages 21, 18, 16 and … 3 months! I’m also soon to be a mother-in-law to a young women I’ve been praying for for 21 years, Katie. A former teen mom, I love encouraging moms of all ages, including young ones who find their lives interrupted by parenting. Recent transplants to Little Rock, my husband and I are excited to be part of FamilyLife. I’ve been homeschooling for sixteen years, and I write books and articles in my spare time. My greatest joy, though, is being a wife and a mom. I’m excited to be a new mom of our adopted baby girl Alyssa after nearly raising the first three to independence. John and I are hoping to adopt more in the future, which means I’m looking ahead to 40+ years of active parenting. Yahoo!

How Jesus Was Coached: Tips on Coaching Your Kids

How to Coach Your Kids Like Jesus

Have you ever thought about how little Jesus was coached? No, I’m not talking about on the soccer field or the baseball diamond. I’m talking about how his earthly parents, Joseph and Mary, put their own imprint on his human heart. Well, I admit, I never really thought about that much until I started working [...]

Follow the Leader: Helping Kids Picture Priorities

Follow the Leader

Just a few months ago we brought two children into our home from the foster care system. We’re excited about adopting them, and we can’t wait to make them part of our forever family. At the same time I’ll be the first to admit the process hasn’t been easy. These kids have a few years [...]

Overcoming Dark Days as a Mom

Overcoming Dark Days As a Mom

For the most part I’m a happy person, but there was a time in my life where I wondered if I’d ever be happy again. My darkest time was when I was 17 years old and pregnant. Because of shame, I’d dropped out of regular high school. I’d had a rocky relationship with my boyfriend [...]

Getting Better at Handling Anger … and Then Even Better Yet

MomsMarchMadness.com

I’ve been a mom for 23 years, and for the first five of those years I had moments when I struggled to control my anger. While I was growing up, my stepdad would go from straight-faced to slap-you-on-the-side-of-the-head-angry in 15 seconds flat. I found myself repeating that cycle. Most of the time I’d deal with [...]

Adoption: Sometimes Love Grows

Adoption

In my 23 years as a mom there have been many homecomings as I brought my six children home for the first times. When Cory was born, I was a 17-year-old single mom, and we returned to my parents’ house. With Leslie and Nathan, John and I lived in low-income housing while he was in [...]

Letting Your Husband Lead

LettingYourHusbandLead-cover

I have to say it wasn’t always easy for me to let John lead. When he and I married in 1990, I was a single mom of a little boy. I was used to making all the rules, so allowing John to lead was really a struggle. I wanted to set Cory’s bedtime. I wanted [...]

Homeschool Holiday Volunteering!

Christmas Tree

What are you doing for your Christmas homeschool break? Shopping? Traveling? Opening your home to family and friends? Have you thought about adding “volunteering” to your holiday festivities? Many homeschooling families take off some time during December from homeschooling, which opens up hours for volunteering. At the same time service organizations seek willing workers to [...]

Adoption Wakes Up Hearts

Adoption Wakes Up Hearts

Last night my two-year-old, Alyssa, drew a picture of a house, and it made me think about how different this house—our house—would be without this girl. Without her giggles, without Barney the dinosaur, without playing jumping frog, without trips to the zoo. Zoo trips are one of my favorite outings because of the joy in [...]

Who Are You Really?

Who are you really?

I’m honored to be able to go to a local high school once a month to talk with teen moms. When I did this recently, about 10 moms came to our support group in the midst of their school day. When we broke for lunch, only four came back after getting their food. Before, I [...]

Planning Ahead Financially: What to Plan NOW to be a Stay-at-home, Homeschooling Mom

Financial-Planning

A few weeks ago a reader sent me a note after reading my post “Homeschooling Fears.” She asked this question: We are due for our first baby in Sept and my husband and I are already thinking waaayyy ahead about schooling.  He is super encouraging in wanting me to stay at home and eventually homeschool [...]
